"BIG BLUE SKY"
Some album facts.
Originally the recording was to be called "Ode to the Hwy Toad"
and later "Jersey Sweet Corn"
(original artwork concept to left)
Jay had over 60 vocal takes on Sugar Sweet Mama, including some variations on lyrics for the chorus. He just wasn't getting it right and was ready to scrap the song a day before it went to mastering. That was the day Jay and Mike set up a beat up old Shure Beta 58 Microphone so Jay could try harmonizing to himself on the chorus. Turns out Jay recut the lead vocals in one take and cut the back up track and it was done and ready in about 15 minutes.
There is some Banjo on two tracks, listen for it.
The album was fully recorded in Whiskey Lips Studio - CB Radio's brand new personal studio fully financed by the band.
The band originally demoed over 20 songs for the album and filtered it down to 10 for the final recording.
CBR used numerous albums to figure out the sounds wanted for the album including The Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker, The Eagles, Delbert McClinton, Bruce Springsteen, The Grateful Dead & New Riders of the Purple Sage.
